What India's e-Visa site asks for
From the e-Visa portal's instructions for applicants, read on October 24, 2026:
- “Format - JPEG”, size “Minimum 10 KB” and “Maximum 1 MB”
- “The height and width of the Photo must be equal.”
- “Photo should present full face, front view, eyes open and without spectacles”
- “Center head within frame and present full head from top of hair to bottom of chin”
- “Background should be plain light colored or white background.”
- “No shadows on the face or on the background.”
- “Without borders.”
How the checker and the file meet it
| e-Visa rule | Here |
|---|---|
| JPEG, 10 KB to 1 MB | The full-size file is a JPEG kept at or under 240 KB (77 KB in our test). |
| Height and width equal | 600 x 600 pixels. |
| Full face, front view, eyes open | Checked: facing the camera, both eyes open. |
| Without spectacles | Check yourself: take glasses off. |
| Head centered, full head from top of hair to bottom of chin | The checker centers the head and keeps the top of the hair and the chin inside the frame. |
| Plain light or white background | Checked: how light, how white and how even the background is. |
| No shadows on the face or the background | Checked: the two sides of the face, and the background left and right. |
| Without borders | The file has no border. |
The e-Visa instructions give no head size and no pixel size, so the checker frames the photo the way a US passport photo is framed, with the head about 59% of the height.
Do you need a print?
No. The e-Visa takes the digital file. The 4x6 sheet is for applications that ask for a printed photo.
